Where the Red Fern Grows

I thought I had dreamed this put apparently not. A lady I work with told me her mother's favorite movie is Where the Red Fern Grows. Her mother is 73 and does not know how to work the DVD player. Her son is 11 and he hates the movie so much that he won't put the movie in for her. The grandmother can't even turn the tv on because it's so complicated. This is terribly funny if you knew the lady and her family however, since you don't you'll probably click on to the next website, since you know how to work your computer. What am I getting at? Electronics and technology aren't as simple as flipping a button or twisting a knob these days. Poor granny just wants to see her favorite movie.

Taxes

Oh dear, I was called today again by my tax provider and my taxes are still screwed up. As a matter of fact last year's taxes are screwed up too. They have completely hosed my tax returns for the past 2 years! Can you believe that?! I am so fumed! And plus, now I still can't by my Canon EOS Digital Rebel. Hmpf!

What a week

Whew! I am so glad it is Friday, cause that means tomorrow is Saturday and we all know what Saturday means....SLEEP IN DAY! I spent most of the week traveling. It started early Tuesday morning when I received a call from my sis telling my mom was in the hospital. So I packed up and hit the road. After making sure she was okay, I headed to the city where I'll be transferring to look for a place to live. It's always fun to search an unfamiliar place for a place to live. After two days I finally decided on a place. I drove back to check on my mom, went to pick up my animals from my sis and settled in for the drive home. Man, I've done some mad driving this week. Anyway, I'm glad to be home. I think I'll pop in a movie and curl up on the couch with my cat and dog.

Sigh

I got my taxes figured out after a week long battle with my tax provider. And I get the money back that I paid for them to mess them up. Now I have to file an amendment, but I get my money on time still. Yea! Now, should I buy the camera or pay off some bills?

Blackberry

Guess what I got today? A new PDA. No, silly not a personal display of affection. I traded in my Treo for a Blackberry. Not the most fancy one but still it's pretty cool. Oh man, now I gotta transfer my address book.

Abandoned Pup

I took my dog to the dog park a few nights ago and found a pup there with no owner. Who would leave such a cute puppy all alone in 20 degree weather? Mean people, that's who. It did have a collar and a phone number so I called with my trusty cellphone. The chick that answered said, "it's my roomates dog and my other roomate left it there." I told her that the dog would freeze if left outside. She replied "thanks for calling," click. I hung up and was consumed with responsiblity for a dog that wasn't my own. I played with the pup for a while, along with other patrons of the park. After an hour of debate with other dog owners we decided it would be best to call animal control. I was literally dialing the digits when the owner arrived and chirped "thanks for calling," swooped the dog up and left hurriedly. I was dumbfounded.

Income tax

The tax service I used screwed up my forms this year. And to top it off they had already e-filed the return. What does that mean for me? Delayed money. I guess my camera will have to wait.

Feist

That's right Feist, not my 'normal' musical taste but a good listen, I'd say. Check her out here. There's a few downloads including a video for the song 'Mushaboom' which reminds me of Prince's video "When Doves Cry" with the whole mirror thingy. And of course when she starts throwing around that red shawl you'll want to take it from her and bury it if you've seen M. Night Shyamalan's The Village. One more thing, 2:36 in, wtf? Frosty flashback. Anyway I didn't come to bash her video, I came to praise her beautiful voice, and unique music. Just try it.

Squirrels

Does anyone else's dog try to save them from squirrels? Apparently my doggie thinks they are a threat to me. I thought maybe he chased them because, dog = hunter, squirrel = prey, but no. He could have field full of the little furry animals to hound, but he comes to chase them away from me. They aren't really even that close either. How sweet is that?

Senior Citizens

Senior citizens are so cool. Friday I spent a 30 minute drive from the rental car place with a retired Marine. He was also retired from the Post Office and he was still working. I asked him a few questions and that's all it took. He started to talk about Vietnam, where he'd traveled, and his family. There is much to be gained from their stories and point of view. We should all prod them more often. I really enjoyed the conversation.

Multitasking and memories

Sometimes it's best not to try and multitask. Like when you're late for work and you're brushing your teeth and trying to put on your underwear at the same time. This morning I was, of course, late for work. It's Friday, aren't we all allowed an extra 15 minutes anyway? So, I'm there brushing my teeth with my new electric tooth brush, and I decide I can save time by putting on my undies with the other hand. Well, I end up brushing one tooth for the 3 minutes it takes to manuever my undies up my legs with one hand. After being put in a throughly self induced bad mood, I moved to the closet. Guess what? I haven't done laundry this week. I peruse my shirts and pass over shirt after shirt. Why do I have all these if I'm not going to wear them? After deliberating for 30 secs I choose a shirt I haven't worn in a while and pull it over my head. Hmm, this is comfy, why do I not choose you more often comfy T-shirt? Could it be because of a subconcious bad memory of a time while wearing that shirt? Kinda like the reason why you don't eat spaghetti and haven't since you were a little kid because it gave you heartburn each time your mom made it. I would always say I didn't like spaghetti when offered, but now I have discovered that I do indeed like the taste, it was just the bad memories of the heartburn. Although, I haven't been able to overcome this with corndogs. I still haven't tried a corndog since my sister made them and used grits instead of corn meal for the bread. Ick, crunchy corndogs, blah. Maybe I'll be brave and have one today.

Brand New Blog

So it is, I have started a weblog. It seems like only a few months ago I didn't even know what a weblog was, and now here I am gettin' all big with the blogging. This should be an interesting journey, or not, we'll see.
